PEMBA Program Design
Whether they want to gain
more control over their own practice or assume leadership positions in
healthcare or related industries, physicians need the latest and best business
and organizational tools if they are to succeed professionally and thrive
in today's complex and ever-changing healthcare environment. Tailored
specifically for their needs, Auburn's Physicians Executive MBA (PEMBA) Program
affords physicians the opportunity to earn a fully accredited MBA degree with
minimal interference with their professional demands.
|
| Students
visit Auburn's campus five times during the 21-month program. During
these short residencies (Wednesday or Thursday through Sunday
noon), the bulk of one course is delivered in a face-to-face,
classroom/workshop setting. |
|
|
| Auburn has
a distinguished history in distance education and the use of
innovative technologies allows the physician to learn from
lectures, cases, and computer simulations. |

The PEMBA program includes
two study trips to enrich students’ perspectives on the
future alternatives for healthcare delivery and practice. First,
the class spends a week in Europe (in the past we’ve
traveled to Paris, Rome and London) getting in-depth exposure
to a healthcare system different than that operating in the
US. Many of the features of these European systems are
often suggested as alternatives to the current US model. By
interacting with healthcare providers and policy makers in
these countries, our students develop a better appreciation
of the pros and cons of these systems.
Students in the PEMBA program will also spend a week in Washington,
DC interacting with US policy makers to learn about and debate
the future of the US healthcare system.
The College of Business arranged
these trips in partnership with the Southern
Medical Association. Physicians
earn at least 20 hours of CME credits for each trip at no
additional cost.
